Sentinel Point is a granite spire on the western edge of the Pikes Peak massif, up above Horsethief Park. It's not famous. There's no gift shop, no highway to the top, and most days nobody on the summit at all. It just stands there at 12,527 feet doing its job, whether or not anyone is looking.
That's the standard I hold software to. The best systems I've worked on are the ones nobody talks about, because they never give anyone a reason to.
When you know what you need and want it built properly the first time. Architecture, code, deployment, and documentation your next hire can actually read.
Slow pages, flaky deploys, the module nobody wants to touch. I'm comfortable working in other people's code, and I won't insist on rewriting everything.
LLM features, document pipelines, internal automations — built by someone who uses these tools every day and knows their failure modes. And if nothing in your business actually needs AI, I'll say that too and save you the budget.
AI coding tools are great at demos and careless about consequences. If a vibe-coded prototype got you something that works until it doesn't — no tests, quiet security holes, three half-finished versions of everything — I'll sort what's worth keeping and turn it into software you can build on.
Architecture reviews and technical due diligence. If you're buying, funding, or inheriting a codebase, I'll tell you what's actually in it — including whether the "AI" in it is real.
Direct senior involvement. Architecture decisions and implementation stay closely connected. You work directly with the person responsible for both, so context doesn't get lost between sales, planning, and delivery.
Working software over status decks. You'll see something running every week, usually starting the first week. Progress you can click on beats progress described in a slide.
I use AI with my eyes open. AI tools are part of how I work — used carefully, they make a good engineer faster; used carelessly, they're how codebases end up on my repair list. Nothing ships that I haven't read, tested, and understood myself.
I'll talk you out of building things. If your problem is solved by a $40-a-month product off the shelf, I'll tell you and send you the link. Custom software is expensive, and it should be saved for the parts of your business that are actually custom.
Focused engagements. I take on a limited number of engagements and scope them carefully. That keeps communication direct, decisions fast, and attention on working software.
